HARBOR VISTA
Client Brief
This personal project is designed for myself, an experienced interior designer and artist, and my husband, a retired NFL player. We aimed to create a streamlined home that balances my husband's cherished memorabilia with a modern, elegant design. Given the abundance of windows and limited wall space, we need innovative solutions for both storage and to showcase his accomplishments, including his prized Super Bowl rings, without compromising the aesthetic integrity of the design.
Design Objective
The primary goal for our design strategy is to upgrade this original developer’s penthouse from a dated 35 year old design to a contemporary waterfront home for a modern family.
Interior Architectural and Design Features
This two year full gut renovation involved demolishing all existing walls into an open floor concept. The extensive process not only redefined the layout but also maximized the use of natural light throughout the space. Modern design elements were meticulously incorporated to enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal. The transformation was comprehensive, extending to every detail from flooring to fixtures, resulting in a seamless blend of contemporary style and comfort.
Area: Kitchen
The 9-foot-high double waterfall design in the kitchen is a stunning feature that adds a touch of drama to the space. Using high-end materials such as rare Arizona Shadow quartzite and custom two-toned cabinets with high gloss uppers and warm wood lower cabinets creates a contrasting statement that elevates the design. LED under cabinet lighting provide function for cooking and creates a warm ambience.
Area: Stairwell
We designed a bespoke stairwell including custom glass panels and metal handrails that were welded by artisans on-site.
Area: Displays
We designed two custom recessed wall units to showcase our clients personal Superbowl rings and trophy. Each unit is illuminated with integrated LED lighting. Steps also have recessed step lighting.
Area: Pantry
On the second floor, a new world of design awaits. We designed a contemporary pantry that seamlessly extends from floor to ceiling and wall to wall. The second floor has porcelain tile flooring. We collaborated with the same artisan to create an entertainment center included a recessed wall of wood panels and an integrated floating credenza to house all electronics.
Area: Balcony
The balcony floor is a herringbone brick pattern to mimic the architecture of the surrounding historic Fells Point neighborhood seen from every angle of the 600 sq ft balcony.
Area: Hallway
The first floor is a light oak herringbone LVP.
Area: Bedroom
The primary bedroom showcases beautiful artisan built millwork that surrounds the bed that is tucked in the recessed in the center. Behind the headboard is a contrasting textured wallpaper. We have installed recessed led puck lights as reading lights above each side of the bed. The additional LED strip lighting surrounds the millwork around the bed creating a moody glow.
Area: Guest Bathroom
The guest bathroom has large format tiles on the floor and walls. A textured 3D concrete mosaic backsplash is tucked behind the custom cut mirror that is illuminated by LED strip lighting. We installed a ceiling track for the shower curtain so it would blend seamlessly into the ceiling. The counters are a beautiful granite and we designed a custom floating vanity with additional LED lighting underneath that casts a warm glow across the floor.
